Exemption Alert: Sidewalk Improvements Require Scooter Use

The Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) wants to alert the community about upcoming sidewalk enhancements around campus. The University of Michigan Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) department will conduct a series of sidewalk inspections using scooters to complete their work.

Because riding scooters on sidewalks is prohibited on campus, AEC applied for special exemptions to expedite the work. If you see university staff members riding scooters on sidewalks and common areas where such use is generally prohibited, do not be alarmed.

As a reminder, it is against university ordinances to ride bikes, electric or motorized scooters, and other vehicles on the sidewalks on campus. These modes of transportation should be utilized on streets or designated bike lanes when permitted.
